§ 2.01. Number; Selection; Terms

  • The city council shall be composed of the mayor and six (6) members. The mayor shall be elected, as provided by law, from the city at large. All members of the council will be elected at large, two (2) being selected from each of three (3) precincts, which shall be hereafter established. One (1) councilperson from each precinct will be elected each year for a two-year term. The mayor will be elected each odd-numbered year. The members of the council, including the mayor, shall each have terms consisting of two (2) years, with a limit of three (3) consecutive terms (six (6) years). Council members must reside in the precinct from which they are elected, for the length of time they are in office.
